About Us

Fortress Windows and Doors Ltd. began in the 1960’s when Neil Manning of North Battleford opened the doors of a new company called Alumi Glass, specializing the manufacture of aluminum sliding windows.  These “new-style” windows addressed the issues of re-painting and repairing rot in old wood windows.

But aluminum windows had a downside:  they were cold.  The metal frames attracted frost and were not well-suited for winters on the Canadian Prairies.  Enter the PVC window.

PVC (polyvinyl chloride), one of the most widely used plastics in the world, proved to be ideal for windows: strong, warm, maintenance-free, durable, and affordable.  In 1985, Alumi Glass became North Battleford’s first manufacturer of the revolutionary window product.

In 1993, Kevin Driedger became manager of the successful company.  Since then, he and his staff have enjoyed serving northwestern Saskatchewan, helping people enjoy the warmth, protection and energy savings from their world-class quality windows and doors.  They’ve also enjoyed significant growth in the business, having added a 7,000 sq. ft. manufacturing plant in 2009.  As the company grew, it took on more staff to build, sell and install windows, entrance doors and sunrooms.

But the Alumi Glass name needed an update.  PVC had long replaced aluminum windows as their primary window product!  It was time for a change.  Kevin wanted a new name that represented both the protection their windows provide and the value that people place in their homes.  “Fortress” fit the bill perfectly!

In spring of 2013, Owner/Manager Kevin Driedger announced Fortress Windows & Doors Ltd. as the new name for Alumi Glass Service Ltd.  The name change was intended to reflect the durability and protection that Fortress-built products offer as well as the security of dealing with a local company that takes each customer’s needs seriously.

In 2016, Fortress Windows & Doors Ltd. was awarded the Business of the Year in the Battlefords Business Excellence Awards.  This was a significant honour for the company and was recognition of hard work and attention to detail from the entire team in recent years.

Fortress continues to strive for excellence serving The Battlefords and northwest Saskatchewan by providing the following:

  • Personal attention to each customer’s unique requirements
  • Education for customers on window/door technologies and options
  • Strict, independently audited, quality controls in manufacturing
  • Outstanding workmanship in both manufacturing and installation

Fortress is also a strong believer in contributing to the overall success of the communities in which they do business.  As a recent example, Fortress was delighted to be among the “Supporter” community builders on CUPlex’s Honour Roll in North Battleford.
